We're talking wedding hair!
So for todays feature I spoke to the lovely ReeRee Rocket from Rockalily Cuts!
Rockalily Cuts is in Hoxton, East London and it opened in May 2012. We specialise in alternative, vintage and rockabilly hair but we do mainstream hair too! Anything from a basic trim and blow dry, to lavender victory rolls. Half of our clients are men, and we don't only do bridal hair, but grooms' hair too! It's fun to see gents getting in on the action too.
What should brides to be/ grooms to be, look for in wedding hair?
What should brides to be/ grooms to be, look for in wedding hair?
Some brides want to look completely different on their wedding day, whereas some want to feel very much like themselves. The beauty of it is that it's completely up to you!
Should BTB & GTB bring in photos of what they like?
We usually advise collecting some photos of hairstyles that inspire them, but to understand that everyone's hair is different. It won't be possible to completely replicate a hairstyle from a photo, when the model has shorter wavy hair and the bride has long and fine hair. We will always advise hairstyles based on your wedding, your hair and your tastes.
Should using a professional stylist be important?
I don't think it is important for everyone to have a professional hairstylist. Some people, with very simple hair needs may prefer to just do it themselves, and that's ok! But if you do want a hairstylist to do it, the bonus of a professional is that they understand what is needed to make your hair look good for the length of the whole day.
Any tips for telling your hairdresser you love/hate your hair trial?
We understand how personal hair is! It isn't personal if the bride wants to try something else. However it does get frustrating if the client cannot explain why they don't like the style. Do you like hair on your face or off? With height and body or more sleek? Do you want it to be fixed/solid, or more fluid? Do you like your parting on a certain side? Giving specific feedback means that you can work your way to your own perfect do.
Should a trial include only one hairstyle or should you be offered the option of trying more than one?
This really depends on the arrangement you've set up with your hairdresser. This is a good question to ask when you're booking your session in.
Should a hairstylist offer tips & information on a hairstyle, if they know it won't suit a client?
I think so, yes. However, the advice should only be given if the client is unhappy. I'd never want to tell a bride that I thought her hair didn't suit her, when she feels amazing. It's all about how we feel in our own hair. Who cares what anyone else thinks?!
How should you pick a hairstylist? Is it okay to ask for a portfolio?
Location, price, availability and quality of work are all things to consider when looking for a hairstylist. The personality of the stylist is a big factor too - you don't want to spend some of your wedding day with someone you don't like!

Wedding Advice & How to react
Let's face it, when it comes to weddings everyone has an opinion.
From close family members to people who you only know via Facebook; everyone will give you their two cents. It's not easy to say no to you lovely old Gran or your best friend at work but sometimes it has to be said!
If rainbow bridesmaids dresses aren't what you've been looking at but your bestie just can't let it go, how do you break the news without going all Bridezilla?!
It won't be easy, it won't be nice but you'll get criticized by someone either way so just do what makes you happy!
Just explain while their idea is appreciated it isn't how you pictured your big day! Instead show them what you've been looking at/planning and get them involved with it.
It's a lot easier to knock someone's idea back with reason rather than just 'because those dresses are revolting/that is so old fashioned/OMG WTF' Most people will be happy you've taken their opinion on board and care enough to have listened!
I know hearing the same advice/opinion over and over again can get annoying but be aware that if more than one person has suggested it or said it, it might actually be worth doing a bit of research into!
I was insistent on having fake flowers at my wedding, I've never been a flowery girl and didn't see the point of spending loads of money on flowers that would soon die all for one day! To cut a long story short, I ended up with a real red rose bouquet and all my bridesmaids had fake. After my Mum and my Nan kept on and on I finally agreed to go have a look and fell in love.
Looking back I'm so glad it was something I decided to take on board!
Don't forget most people only offer their opinions because they think they're being helpful and I know it can be the most annoying thing in the world but at least they care enough to want to help!
Wedding Day Survival Kit
Everything's sorted, paid off and there's only a few days to go. Now I don't want to be the one to put thought's into your head but have you really got everything sorted?
What happens if you fake eyelash decides to come loose? Your lipstick wears off? A broken fly?
Never fear! Here are a few essentials for any Bride & Groom!
Sewing Kit
A travel sewing kit can be a life saver! Loose seams, broken fly's, loose buttons... all fixable! So even if someone does manage to get caught and rip something, crisis averted! HORRAY!
Makeup Bag
Waterproof mascara should be one that doesn't even need to be mentioned! Tweezers, eyelash glue, lipstick, eyeliner, eye shadow, a compact mirror, cotton buds & tooth brush and toothpaste! Clear nail varnish for any last minute tight ladders oh and don't forget foundation & powder - even the Groom doesn't want the only memory of his wedding day to be that huge spot on his nose!
Spare Shoes
Bride & Groom.... there's no shame in admitting defeat at your reception and rocking out some comfy shoes! After all you want to enjoy your day not spend it wincing every time you take a step!
Hair Clips & hairspray
Bobby pins. Sort out those fly a way's stat!! Bobby pins can even come in helpful to keeping that tie tail at bay or holding a pocket handkerchief in place!
Deodorant, perfume & aftershave
Nerves equal sweating. Do I really need to say more?!
Sunscreen
Yes. Really. If your having a summer wedding this really is a must! Do you want tan lines that match your wedding dress on your honeymoon? How about a red faced Groom in all the photos? Plus I haven't even mentioned sun spots, sun burn.....
Plasters
From blisters to someone cutting their finger on something. Imagine blood on your gorgeous gown or freshly steamed suit?! eurgh!
Tissues
Your probably going to cry..... and even if you don't you know your mother will!
Painkillers
Stress headaches, painful blisters..... always better to be prepared!
Money
Ask someone you trust to have a bit of spare cash for you, as you'll never know when you'll need it!
Mints
You'll be kissing hundreds of people, always nice to keep fresh and minty!
Hopefully you won't need any of the above on your wedding day, but failing to prepare is preparing to fail and as you've already spent so long planning these few bits are really nothing in comparison!
Groom Edition; Wedding fairs, tattoos and an industry aimed at the Bride
So I was dragged along to the national wedding fair at Olympia a few weekends ago, I was dreading it to be honest, all the pushy vendors and such and having to explain that my wife is a wedding blogger and I'm not getting married (although if she had her way we would be doing it every bloody year) but was pleasantly surprised that it was all quite laid back and I could browse the products and services they offered freely. One thing that was apparent like every other wedding fair I went to, it was not to groom orientated, a few car stalls and some suit stalls and a suits few in the fashion show but apart from that nada!
Now to be honest I've racked my brains as to what I would of liked to see at these fairs, I was quite lucky as all I was after was a magician and cupcakes and I found these, but I'm sure there is a market for men at wedding fairs but I can't just put my finger on what it is yet.
Now there was one stall that peeked my curiosity and then enraged me immensely, it was to do with tattoos, now I personally have a fair ole few and couldn't imagine covering them for anything and this included my wedding day! The service they provided was airbrushing skin tone make up on so you look "normal and natural" for your big day, now the friends and acquaintances I have that have tattoos have them because they like them, it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks!
When you go in to get a tattoo it is explained that they are for life, so why you would get them covered up is beyond me (that being said if you have a bad tattoo I can kinda understand the appeal. Then again if you have a bad tattoo it's probably because you decided to get it done on the cheap or while in Magaluf and woke up in a drunk haze with it, if this is the case why not get it lazered off anyway?!), is there really a future market for this?
All in all the wedding industry needs a shake up, more businesses aimed at the Groom and more acceptance that every Bride and Groom isn't going to fit into the cookie cutter!

Why is the wedding industry so Bride orientated?
I mean really? Why is everything apart from suit hire so pushed towards the bride?
My husband was hideous when it came to wedding planning, while every glossy magazine was basically telling me to pick and tell him later, we were constantly bickering at each other choices. Looking back though, why should he have just taken it lying down? We both footed the bill and it was his day too!
While looking around the National Wedding Show I noticed that there were only two stalls aimed at Grooms. The fashion show offered suit options agreed, but why so little? Why isn't there barbers offering to do the grooms hair? Why isn't there more adverts for men to get manicures for the big day? Why not have more companies that offer cars and transport for hire aimed just at the Groom?
Let's face it, wedding planning is all about the Bride, it's her day! The dresses, the hair, makeup, car, shoes, tiara & accessories. I know women are accepted for dreaming of their perfect day but what about the guys that do it too? What about gay couples? Why do they have to wade through hundreds upon hundreds of companies aimed at the Bride?
With this in mind, this blog post is just for you gorgeous Grooms!

National Wedding Show London
Today I spent the day with hundreds of brides and grooms to be at the wedding wonderland that is The National Wedding Show.
When you walk in your hit with glittering dresses, goodie bags filled with treats and more wedding inspiration than you can shake a stick at!
The first thing I had to go and watch was the Wedding Attire Catwalk and I'm so so pleased I did! There were 10 themes such as Carnival, Masquerade and City Chic, all of which had various different wedding dresses and suits (yes grooms, they even cater for you!). From the more traditional to the dip-dyed beauty's of tomorrow all available from designers such as Justin Alexander, Nigel Rayment and Ivory & co!
They key word for this seasons gorgeous styles has to be detail. Perfect laces, bows, plunging backs and gorgeous embellished belts!
After spending 20 minutes drooling over the attire I made my way across Olympia and sat in on Bride De Force's Top 10 Planning Tips. A brilliant easy to digest 20 minutes of top planning tips and easy to follow advice, well worth a sit in! You even get a gorgeous coin free from Potcakes Weddings!
I finally decided to have a walk around and see what was for offer! With over 250 stalls I was definitely spoilt for choice, there's even a Vintage area and a gorgeous Champagne Bar!
No matter if your having a traditional wedding or something more modern the National Wedding Show is definitely the place to be!
Be sure to check out the Essie Nail Bar while your there, there's a free buff and polish for every purchase plus you get a free Essie Nail Varnish in your goodie bag, along with loads of other great products! Don't forget to check out You & Your Wedding Stands too! For just £5 you get two magazine's that would normally costs you over £7 plus goodies! Pamper while looking for wedding inspiration!
As if that wasn't enough, there's also a huge Bare Minerals stall!
All in all, the National Wedding Show is a must have for everyone and anyone planning their wedding! Be sure to get your tickets and get yourself down there, as it's still running in London until Sunday 23/02/14 then it hits Manchester & Birmingham! Don't worry if you can't make it this month, The National Wedding Show is back in September & October, happy days!!

I know right? Wedding security, really?
What are they going to do make sure no one sticks their finger in the cake?
Check invitations upon arrival?
You may scoff but for some wedding security is a must have and we're not just talking big celebrities!
Jealous ex-partners ruining weddings is becoming more and more heard of, not too long ago this article was in the news; Sister Jailed For Wrecking Her Own Brothers Wedding.
So is wedding security a step too far or in some cases is it needed?
I spoke to Ade from Vigilantprotector.co.uk to find out more...
'There are lots of reasons to consider having security at a wedding, expensive gifts, venues with multiple functions at the same time etc, however we find the most common reason is a jealous ex partner threatening to turn up and have their say' says Ade. 'Wedding security offers a covert or overt solution by ensuring that the problem doesn't reach the wedding.'
'A wedding we did last year the bride had been harassed by her former partner for 8 years and they just wanted the pierce of mind that they were not going to ruin their wedding day. Another wedding we worked at last year was the Grooms Ex-Wife making threats! Jealousy mixed with a less than amicable split from a previous partner can get emotions running high, then you throw alcohol into the mix and people are capable of doing strange things!'
'With everyone sharing their lives on Facebook & Twitter, it makes keeping the date or venue secret a lot harder, hence, we get called! Most of our clients choose not to tell their guests about the problems and we guarantee not to disclose it to any venue staff that don't need to know, most just assume it's somebody famous getting married!'
Wedding Security isn't going to be something every couple need or want, but it is looking to be apart of the industry that will start to boom, especially with our lives now being so public thanks to social media.

Weddings - The Groom Edition
Ever wondered what the groom thought of the big day? Here at Cherry Bomb Weddings we wanted to get both sides of the story so we asked a groom who got married back in 2012!
Hi Stewart!
So how involved were you in your wedding planning?
I was fairly involved with the planning of the wedding or so I like to think, at the end of the day what ever the wife wanted, she got!
Did you attend any wedding fairs?
I really enjoyed going to wedding fairs, well the first few anyway. We we're going to 1 a week at one point however I did find a magician inspired by the Gavin and Stacy TV show though so that was an upside.
All the free cake as well!
There is some downsides and that's how pushy some of the venders can be, and it really is aimed at the women, take the wedding dress fashion shows, not a man there of his own free will I'm sure, I even went off for a stroll and a beer when I was taken to one.
Overall they did help, even if its just to get some sort of an idea of what's out there.
If you could do it differently what would you do?
I wouldn't pay the amount I did for the balloons, we should have researched who we used in more depth. They weren't very professional and turned up when they felt like it on the morning of the wedding.
I'd also probably use a different suit hire shop, the one we chose made so many mistakes and at one point even blamed me for loosing a suit when a member of their staff hadn't even given me it!
Best bits?
The stag do was interesting, buying my wedding ring from The Great Frog and our cakes made by Laura from Cupcake-a-licious were amazing.
Did you and your bride have any arguments?
The venue choice, the welcome drinks and the first dance all caused some heated discussions. There's just so much choice and everyone gives you their opinion, in the end we ignored everyone's advice and just chose what made us happy.
Stag Do - is it as bad as every Bride imagines?
I had a pretty mellow one, headed back to my home town in Wiltshire for a meal and a lock in. At the end of the night I was in the best shape by far, one person was so drunk he was put in a taxi and sent home to his poor girlfriend and another fell out of a door, with a pint of beer and somehow didn't spill a drop! We thought he had possibly died the next morning as no one could wake him up in his hotel room.
The Wedding Dress - is it worth the hype?
They are defiantly worth the money! I got a little choked up when I first seen the wife walking up the aisle.
What's your opinion on the wedding industry?
It's too bride orientated! There's bridal fashion shows, hair and makeup trials, shoes, tiaras..... yet not a lot for the groom. There's no male based wedding magazines or fashion shows! If your lucky you might get half a page in a bridal based magazine on groom fashion but that's pretty much it.
I know weddings are generally the Brides big day but it's our day too!
General overall feelings - Would you do it again?
I would do it all over again, I had an amazing time. It's worth all the stress and arguing over what to put in favour boxes!
Any advice for husbands to be?
Yes! - Happy Wife, Happy Life!
